The Montessori Approach offers a wide curriculum to the child through the unique combination of: –
-Freedom to choose activities for children as young as three years old
-High staff member/child ratio,
-Access to an ordered, well resourced and well presented environment.
In this way children become enthusiastic, self-directed learners with high self-esteem.
Montessori’s ideas are not static as some believe, but are a dynamic force in education. Her ideas have continued to evolve in a growing school of educational thought that is built on observation, experimentation and common sense.
Both Montessori and West Cliffe deliver a holistic approach as we develop the whole child intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally. We also support a multicultural approach to the humanities through which we aim to foster understanding and respect for all cultures.
Through caring and professional staff using the Montessori method of education, children are encouraged to develop the skills that will enable them to participate fully in the world today. Besides developing intellectual skills, children will also gain the emotional and social skills that we consider to be equally as important to their future success.
We encourage our children to be able to work as part of a team, co-operatively working towards the same goals or supporting one another in their individual achievements. This is considered essential for building self-esteem and self-direction
West Cliffe School and Nursery is situated in the leafy suburbs on the edge of Keighley, opposite Devonshire Park and close to the grounds of Cliffe Castle Museum.
We take pride in the knowledge that we are situated in a conservation area and as a result, our nursery children are encouraged to help secure the wellbeing of the local wildlife throughout the year.
The nursery itself is registered for 32 children in total; 8 children under three years old and 24 children over three years old. We also have a secure outside environment where children can explore and play in all weathers, a Primary Classroom on the grounds offering excellent Montessori education for children under eleven years old and a community building where a number of activities are on offer.
